Car hire in Huelva

Huelva is western Andalusia's great unknown: miles of fine-sand beaches from Matalascañas to Isla Canela, the Doñana wetlands, the Sierra de Aracena with its dehesa villages and celebrated ham, and the Martian landscapes of the Riotinto mines. All spread across a sprawling province where the highlights lie far apart.
The capital has no airport — the nearest are Seville and Faro — but it does have two convenient pick-up points: the city centre and the railway station, where services from Seville and Madrid arrive. Collecting your car as you step off the train is the most direct way to start exploring the coast or head up into the sierra.

- Huelva's beaches (Punta Umbría, El Rompido, Islantilla, Isla Cristina) stretch along ~100 km of coastline with poor links between them.
- The Sierra de Aracena, Riotinto and the Gruta de las Maravillas cave lie more than an hour to the north, with no realistic alternative to the car.
- With no airport of its own, anyone arriving by train at Huelva station will be glad to drive straight off to their accommodation on the coast.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get to Huelva if it has no airport?
The usual route is to fly into Seville or Faro (Portugal) and continue by road, or take a direct train to Huelva station. There are hire offices at the station itself and in the city centre so you can carry on by car.
Can I visit Doñana with the hire car?
You can drive independently to El Rocío, Matalascañas or the visitor centres, ~50 min from the capital. The interior of the national park can only be explored on authorised guided tours by four-wheel drive, booked separately.
