Car hire in Granada

3 offices in Granada · airport pick-up · Spain

Granada brings together, within a few short kilometres, the Alhambra and the Albaicín, Europe's southernmost ski resort in the Sierra Nevada, the Alpujarra villages clinging to the mountainside and a tropical coastline with beaches like La Herradura. Few Spanish provinces offer such contrasts of altitude and landscape over such short drives.

You can collect your car at Federico García Lorca Airport, around 20 minutes from the centre via the A-92, or at the railway station if you arrive by AVE. It's the ideal formula: explore the capital on foot — the historic centre is far better walked than driven — and save the car for the excursions, which is where you'll really need it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a car to visit the Alhambra?

No: the Alhambra is best visited on foot or by the city minibus, and its car park fills up in high season. Where the car earns its keep is everywhere else: the Alpujarra, Sierra Nevada, Guadix and the coast, where public transport is scarce.

Do I need anything special to drive up to the Sierra Nevada in winter?

The A-395 road is well maintained, but during snowfall the use of chains or winter tyres may be required. Check the road conditions before heading up and ask about available equipment when you collect the vehicle.
