The old town is largely pedestrianised, but it is ringed by covered car parks with signs showing available spaces. The easiest approach is to leave the car in one of them and explore the market square and the Schnoor on foot — both just minutes away.

Yes — it's the star excursion. Coastal towns such as Cuxhaven and the Weser dykes are little more than an hour away, and the Wadden Sea marshland, a World Heritage Site, has no practical access by public transport.
