Belfast has gone from industrial city to destination in its own right: the Titanic museum on the old shipyards, the murals of the west, the Victorian St George's Market and a food scene in full swing. It's compact and walkable — but everything around it calls for a road trip.
The Antrim coast, starring the Giant's Causeway, is one of Europe's great drives, and public transport barely skims it. Collect your vehicle at Belfast International Airport and you can be on the coastal route the very morning you land, stopping wherever takes your fancy.

- The Causeway Coastal Route links the Giant's Causeway, the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge and Dunluce: it's best enjoyed by stopping at every viewpoint, impossible on a fixed tour.
- Northern Ireland is small: from Belfast, almost anywhere is within an hour and a half's drive.
- The island's rural showpieces — the Dark Hedges, the Glens of Antrim, the Mourne Mountains — have no real bus coverage.

Frequently asked questions
Can I cross into the Republic of Ireland with the car?
The border is open with no checks, but you must state when booking that you'll be leaving Northern Ireland so the insurance covers you in the Republic. With that sorted, Dublin or Donegal slot easily into your route.
How long does the Antrim coastal route take?
The full Causeway Coastal Route between Belfast and Portrush can be done in one long day, but ideally spend a night on the coast: the Giant's Causeway at sunrise or sunset is a different experience altogether.
